Stress in nursing, does it affect you?

2 nurses emergency stressed nurse

Welcome to Stress in nursing,

"How many times have you felt stressed at work?"

If you have answered many times, you are not on your own!

Nursing is a wonderful career. Caring for others is greatly rewarding. However, it can also be very stressful. Nursing is both physically and mentally demanding. That applies whether you are a qualified nurse, a student or a nursing assistant.

Much has been done to reduce the risk of physical injuries we are exposed to at work e.g. mandatory training in manual handling and infection control procedures.

However, work related stress is one of the main causes of ill health. I wonder how many of us have access to the same degree of regular training or support for our mental wellbeing?

The aim of Stress-in-nursing.com is to raise awareness of work related stress and to help nurses improve their own wellbeing by:

  • Raising awareness of how stress affects you
  • Offering stress management tips and information
  • Looking at work related stress and how it can be managed

Make some time to look after yourself. After all, you deserve it.

As Florence Nightingale once said:

"The very first requirement in a hospital is that it should do the sick no harm."

Perhaps its time to add the following:

"nor the people tending to the sick"
